Interior Designer Salaries
What all do I need to know about interior designing?

How much money for a salary? What are all the options for choosing what do for style? What do interior designers do?

Thanks

The money’s not that great to start. you usually start as an intern, then maybe move up to assistant. This usally involves doing the stuff the designers ddon’twant to do, getting samples, organizing the library, doing presentation boards, writing specs.

For commercial design or to get a license you need to pass a test I think called the NCIDQ that involves a lot of codes.

As far as style it can depend on what your client wants, its best to be versatile and know traditional, contemporary, and a little in between. Designers may create a signature style, but the clients will have specific tastes & needs you may need to adapt to.

There are 2 basic programs out there for school: a 2-year offered at most technical colleges and a 4-year at the university/college level. The 4 year requires a thesis and is more in depth and probably will require some liberal arts classes as well as marketing, economics, and business so you learn how to run your business.

The 4 year degrees will guarantee a better chance of a job in a large firm and in commercial design. the 2-year will probably be more for residential & decorating
