Interior Design Drawing
If you know anything about interior design, please answer this question ?

I want to go into interior design. I take art classes and drawing is one of my talents.

I have a friend who also wants to go into interior design. She doesn’t admit it, but she knows she can’t draw to save her life. She tells me that you don’t need to draw well to be an interior designer.

I am starting to think that I’m wasting my parent’s money and my time in taking art classes when I don’t even need it.

So, my question is – do I need to draw well to be a successful interior designer?

Hi there,
I’ve been an interior designer for about 19 years.
While it’s helpful for sure in creating sketched layouts for clients
where you’d be able to show the colors, fabrics and textures, it’s not necessary nowadays.
There are great programs out there that can help virtually sketch out rooms for clients.

A lot of designers cannot draw at all, but have teams of folks who do these things for them as well.

If you enjoy drawing now, it will help. Often times I wish I could draw
rooms out for clients. Or at least quickly sketch things for them in a manner that looks more professional and I’ve often times considered taking art classes to better assist me with this. It does help with visualization for the clients and for designers who want to go out on their own without having to pay a sketch artist / assistant.

I wish you the very, very best with your studies!
Keep drawing!!

Best,
Priscilla

Interior Design Business License
Is it ok to mix 2 businesses on one business card?

I have a real estate license, and I am also an interior designer. I need to order new real estate cards. I designed the card just for real estate, and in the back I included a statement that says that I can also help with interior design services. Do you think it’s inappropriate to do this?

There are always creative ways to get the job done. If these two businesses were not related, then certainly two separate biz cards would be in order, however, these businesses are highly related.

I think you can advertise both businesses even within the same content, on the same side of the card. For example, something like this might be fun, and attention getting:

I decorate em, then I sell em! Call me for either service you need. I am an expert in both Interior Design, and Real Estate.

Or:

I get your home pretty, then I get it sold! Interior Design / Real Estate.

These professions go so well together, I think they should be advertised together. It helps you stand out both as a Designer, and as an Agent.

Hope this helped you.
