Interior Design Online Classes
How does a single mom going to college and working prioritize everything?

I am a single mother of 2 daughters ages 11 and 3, enrolled in online college classes for my Bachelors in Interior Design part time and I also work 32 hours a week. My parents are mad at me that I depend too much on them to pick up the slack when I am doing homework. Should I drop out or hang in there and disregard the quilty feelings that I am not being a good mom?

When I went back to school after the kids, I used to wake up at 3 or 4 am to do my homework after I got a few hours of sleep. Worked well for me. Don’t quit–it’s an investment in their future and you will be setting an example for them. The feelings of guilt will always be there. Today because you are in school, tomorrrow because work demands too much from you and you are pulled in too many directions. Try to balance as best you can and perhaps identify other sources of support besides your parents (other single moms or stay at home moms who need a break from time to time and might trade baby-sitting time)

Student Interior Design Portfolio
should you put a portfolio on facebook?

As an interior design student, i currently made a senior portfolio. Would it be wise to make a facebook page that potential employers and friends can see?

It would be wiser to build a website with your portfolio. You can have a page that links to your facebook page, group page, like page and whatever else facebook has. It is better to have a website because this shows professionalism.

A domain name will cost you $10 (GoDaddy, Google – yes they sell domain names – i buy through Google and they buy through various sites). Do not pay over $12 if you choose to private your whois information. $10 if u dont private your whois information.

You can make a website for free, or for a very cheap price. For a starting website, try staying free or spend at most $50. -Also avoid have sloppy advertisements around your website. The idea is to have a clean simple webpage with your portfolio and resume. When you apply for job, put your website on your resume.

Hope this helps.

Office Interior Design Ideas
What should i do with my life?

I am a very creative person and I think an office job would kill me. I just got my As results back and they really weren’t what I was expecting. I was hoping to study either Architecture or interior architecture but i struggle presenting my ideas for others to understand. I came out with a D in design technology and Cs in Classics, maths and physics. Is there an alternative route into architecture or a different career that is similar but not so stupidly difficult?

Have you scheduled time with the university guidance counselor yet? If not, do so. That is their job, to help you review your interests and offer you options that best suit your goals.
Interior Design is an area that allows you to be creative, is far less intensive math and design-wise than architecture or engineering, and requires that you be mobile and flexible. There is some office time required to put together the design or plan to present to the client, but lots of time in the home and consulting. And Interior Designers do become architects, so it may allow you to start your career while you continue to attend school and hammer away at those other classes until you make it.

Good luck!
