i really want to be an interior designer when i grow up.
i’m only 15 though. but the thing is, i heard most people
who are really successful at it start kindof young and i was
wondering what i should do now? or wait another year or 2?

and if your good at photoshop please answer my other question:

never wait. try to read as much as possible about interior design. learn basic and common rules, color rules. learn about world architechture and interior design styles. it is always better to become famous when you’re young then wait for years because of laziness. good luck!

you can also learn to decorate according to feng shui rules. learn how to find your lucky direction and place the bed so you sleep heading one of your lucky direction. also, learn to decorate according to feng shui color use.

Doll house sized Victorian home? Please help?

I’m building a Victorian home in Interior Design and have two weeks to finish it.

What can I use as shingles? What can I use to build a porch and exterior window frames? Something like this:

http://www.customdollhouse.com/images/MM-FO303%20Front.jpg

Please help, thank you! :)
Also, what can I use for the exterior (the yellow part of the house in the picture) to make it look that way?
Nope, I live in Pennsylvania.

For the weatherboards, just cut fairly firm cardboard into narrow strips, about 1/2 inch wide to give 1:12 scale of 6″ boards. Start at the bottom of the house and layer your way up the wall. Use an acrylic paint to finish.
For the shingles, cut small rectangles of fine sandpaper and slightly round one end. Layer these in the same way as the boards for the walls.
I would suggest you use a tacky craft glue, as you want things to stick firmly fairly quickly.

What do you think about trees in rooms with hight ceilings?

I have a new loft with high ceilings – if feels quite cavernous so I need ideas to fill the space.

What do you think of large trees such as ficus trees in high ceiling-ed rooms.

Reason I ask is cos a friend is an interior designer and she was against it but although I have little or no design talent I love the idea.

I am on a ow budget and have to decorate and furnish over a relatively long period using a small monthly budget

So: tall trees. Good idea? My loft is sunny and tall with mezzanine bedroom overlooking living and kitchen

20 foot ceilings; floor to ceiling windows on front and side walls.

Trees are great – just not a ficus. They are very difficult to grow & they are out of style. Choose instead large palms. Trees aren’t hard to care for, & add a lot of positive acoustic properties as well as adding good humidity & air purification properties. You of course will want to put them in large decorative ceramic pots & keep them watered & fed. You can always hire a plant maintenance service if you don’t have a green thumb. None of this is cheap, however. You can uplight them for dramatic affect, creating shadows around the space.

Other items that take up volume – large floor screens, sculpture on pedestals, architectural elements such as antique wood doors leaning on a wall. (Check out architectural salvage yards or EBay)
