How to find design work in Dubai?

Hello

I am a recent interior architecture and design graduate from the college of art and design in Toronto Canada and I’m obsessed with the idea of working abroad, specifically in Dubai, it has always been my dream. I did a little bit of research on how to apply for visas but it says i need to be employed first. A friend of mine told me my best bet was to just go over there on vacation and look for work, but i’m not too crazy about that, considering you never know what might happen.

Is there any easy how to’s on finding design work in Dubai from canada, and overall relocation guidelines. Any help would be MUCH appreciate, Thank you!

Please visit Astrid’s webpage which provides you with all recruitment agencies working in the UAE. Look for a suitable job and apply. Look at her tips regarding writing and sending in cvs, too.

Some people come here on visit visa and look for a job, but the proper way is to apply for a job first, have all your degrees verified in your home country already and then come over here on employment visa instead visit visa. Having degrees verified before coming over here will save you a whole lot of time. If you get lucky and can land a job, then your residence visa and labour card will be prosessed much faster.

Please be aware that it is common here not only to negotiate a salary. Here you will receive a “salary package” which should include housing or housing allowance and transportation as a minimum. Rents are skyrocking in the UAE. Check them out on the net before you will start any talks.

If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to email me.

Take care and good luck!

Interior Design Jobs London
Interest oriented career or money oriented?

Im going to start college soon, now that i have a part time job, im able to pay for college. although in UAE there are no good universities im planning to go for University of London External Programmes.
Now my parents want me to study something that will bring me money, something in business or interior designing etc.
But I want a job which i will like. Ive always loved learning history and telling people about it, espeically the middle ages. And i love museums also. Are “history learners” paid decently?

I think all the jobs you have mentioned pay. Are you wanting 6 digit income or above poverty? You can find employment in those fields in various positions. I do not know if history learners are paid, but I do know History teachers get paid, and more if your a prof. in college.

Is the Dallas Art Institute hard to get into?

I am interested in the Interior Design program and I’m an army vet who graduated HS back in 2000. I have about 60 college credits. What do they actually look for? I’ve done alot of searches and looked at the school’s website so I would prefer alumni of the school to answer.

If I recall correctly, the Art Institute is a for-profit school. As such, they focus on enrollments, but are also concerned about graduation rates. I used to work for a different for-profit school, and to tell the truth, they are a good fit for many students. Some are strictly 2 year programs, others are for 4 years. Try to transfer in all 60 credits into a 4 year program.

From what I have seen written about other ‘Art Institutes’, they will give you a very solid education in their specialty areas.

Before you sign up, make sure that you get to meet at least 2 or 3 of the faculty who teach courses in your specific interest area (fine arts, animation, print, web etc.) and also the head of the program. You can also ask if you can talk to some of the current students (without the admissions person hovering, of course).

Since you have some college under your belt already, why not apply to a design/art program at a public 4 year college or university?

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it is the ‘right fit for you’ and do not feel pressured.

Best of luck!
