Interior Design Assistant
Interior design and decoration ..?

What kind of courses should I take and when should I work if I want to be an interior designer without to go to college for 4 years? Can you get this position without a diploma? I love interior design and decoration, but can not afford to go to school, but I would at least work as an assistant to one of these two … Please help!

You nececerily not have to go to school if you wants to be a designer. The design is a talent and skill levels come with practice. I suggest to visit jurgita.com website is very useful for beginners like you. You'll find a great designer community there. I think I could help with this more. Also initiate a discussion forum and create a portfolio amateur designers, if you can. It is an opportunity to get noticed by industry professionals. Worth a try:)

How much do you have to pay for online college?

i want to enroll in Sheffield School, an online college for Interior Design. does anyone know the cost of it? plus im only 16 so i wont be doin it for a few years, i just want to know right now so i can save up.

As a general rule, any degree of online education is going to be slightly more elevated in costs than a traditional university or ‘classroom’ – type setting, mostly due to the added convenience factor of the internet format. I personally love an online curriculum and have utilized it to complete 3/4ths of my Bachelor’s degree thus far.

However, yes..the actual institution you choose will affect the individual cost, but also the ‘nature’ or type of institution that it is as well. For an Associate’s/general college parallel program at a technical college where I first attended the initial half of my program, I actually was awarded enough financial aid that I received additional money back each term. Tech College was a very affordable way to approach higher education, and can be very beneficial depending on the degree. For a place such as this, I paid (well, the government aid mostly paid..) about $430 some per class, and I maintained a full time schedule with four classes (4 credits each) or 12 credits total each semester.

Now, I am transferring to finish my degree at an online UNIVERSITY, not Tech College…and this greatly influences the difference you will be required to pay. In fact, this portion of my degree will actually be slightly more expensive than when I did about a half (a** lol) semester of work at an on-campus university before I dropped out and re-enrolled elsewhere. At a university’s campus (including this new school – Ottawa University by the way, if I chose to do so), each course costs about $1200. For this same school online, my actual expense will be closer to $1600 (as they calculate it not by class but credit hour..). Each credit hour for them is $360 x 4 (credits, what each individual class is worth) and you arrive at that ridiculous amount PER class. Then, multiply that by 2 or 3 courses per term (they have a fast-paced program wherein instead of 2 main semesters where 4 courses+ is considered full time, they have six 8-week terms where only 2 classes is categorized as ‘full time’.) The idea of a fast-paced vs. traditional curriculum will also affect your total expenditures, as well as what the going rate is for your specific major or intended program/specialty..in this case Interior Design.

Also, be aware there is financial aid available (at least some degree) to almost all incoming college students. Visit FAFSA’s website (I believe it is FAFSA.gov) for more information as to what you will need to do to apply for financial aid, it would be silly not to. Other resources and options include loans (of course), and websites specifically set up to make available tons of scholarships to qualifying students (Fastweb.com is a good one.) Most are really simply to apply for, writing short essays or simply submitting a statement as to why you feel you deserve the scholarship, and including any transcripts or course records they’d like to see, are usually all that’s needed to possibly receive the extra money. Some even just award scholarship funding based on your intended major, with no other criteria necessary, making it REALLY easy! Best of all, most of the amounts never fall below $500, and can well exceed into the thousands, taking a BIG junk out of what you’d need to otherwise pay out of your own pocket. All very valid opportunities to consider now in your preparation…

Good luck to you!
