Interior Design Of Houses Furniture Interior design consultation?
I am wondering how much it would cost to have an interior designer come to my house and give me a consultation. You know, tell what peices of furniture to buy, where to place objects, how do decorate my walls, things of that nature. Is it worth it? Has anybody ever had this done?
I realize that this will probably not be cheap. If I wanted to be cheap I would go to the goodwill and get my furniture. I just want to know if anyone has had this done and how much they paid for it, so when I do go ahead with it I know if I will be getting ripped off.
Interior designers set their own prices, and vary greatly in their skill and expertise.
Some will sell their services for a fee, others work on a cost-plus basis. Some just hung up their shingle, and others have been doing it for eons…
You can interview a designer like any other professional, and they should not charge you for this – they are interviewing for the “job.” Just because someone calls themself a designer doesn’t mean they will listen to your ideas or have great ideas of their own, so you will want to find the right fit.
Many furniture stores have complimentary staff designers who will assist you, but they probably wouldn’t come to your house – you’d probably have to draw your own floorplan. But they will still give you advice on paint treatments and floor coverings, etc.
Then there’s folks like “Decorating Den” who only work in people’s homes. That, I believe, is a franchise.
Also, be aware that “Decorator” and “Designer” are often used interchangeably, but the Decorator may be self-proclaimed while the Designer is more likely to have formal training.
Good luck & enjoy the process. Don’t give up complete control to anyone. And don’t call the Designer 2 weeks after the job is over to ask him/her what to do because you ran out of that special toilet paper that matches the bathroom exactly…

Interior Design Online Portfolio Hey artists and designers! What comments and recommendations do you have for my new online portfolio?
I am a student at Ohio University. I was studying for my MFA but switched to Interior Design last year with intentions to still receive a minor in art. Here’s my webpage which I’ll be adding a lot more too soon! Any changes I should make? This is mostly for my friends and professors to see but I will certainly use it to find internships down the road. Thanks!
Sorry, here is the link! emilygoodportfolio.com – I’m looking for web page suggestions. Thanks!
This site simply showcases a students work. My work is NOT for sale. I am only looking for web design advice. Thank you!
