How is the job market for interior designers?

I have always really liked interior designing/decorating. Just wondering what the job market is like for interior designers. I am a dental hygienist, but the job market has declined significantly so I was thinking of a career change but don’t want to be in the same situation. Also what is the salary like? I live in Canada so I would prefer specs in the area, but any opinion is appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure about the Canadian local market, but unless you are associated with a local company in the US (like a high-end furniture store) that can give you constant referrals, it is a very difficult business to do well in.

Salary for a great one is off the charts. Starting out – probably around 12,000 to 20,000 your first year while you are getting referrals, building clientele, etc.
