Interior Design Programs Free Download
What is a good free program for 3D architecture modeling?
Can anyone give any good and safe recommendations on what program should I download? I’m currently interested in interior designing of houses.
Ok so everyone so far has mentioned the free Blender and Maya which is NOT free. They are indeed high end professional modelling packages capable of handling most tasks.
However what they haven’t told you is these are not aimed specifically at architecture or interior design but more towards the type of 3d seen in games and cinema.
The main free architectural package is Google’s Sketchup which is also very easy to learn and great for initial design stages. These models can then be easily exoported to be the basis for both technical drawings and more advanced models. However Sketchup’s strengths are in orthogonal external form creation although you can import .3ds models which can be found on the many free model sharing sites online.
For specific aspects of interior design many manufactures have software to help visualize a particular feature of a proposed design such as flooring or wallpaper. Like many other furniture suppliers Ikea has a great tool for kitchen and office layouts on its website.
There are an interesting open source (ie. FREE and developing for ever…) Windows program which I have come acrosss called Sweet Home. I think it is worth a look and will be trying it out myself…
There are also some shareware versions of commercial software such as Live Interior 3D, Microspot Modeler, etc. They will presumably have limitations on length of use or saving or will include watermarks in the images.
Now there are also cheap 3d packages (<100$) which depending on your own criteria may give you a satifactory image your projects. such as those of Databecker but there are many many others (see review link below). However the end image will be good but are aimed at the 'home design' ie. amateur. Unlike professional renderers may take a while to render out the final image and may have a limited library of furniture.
There are also professional space planning tools but that is a whole other ballgame and I have no current experience with the packages.
The makers of Maya, Autodesk, also make 3DS Max the most widely used 3D package for architecture. This especially so as there are an immense wealth of resources specifically in their .3ds and .max formats. Moreover Viz the little brother of Max is incorporated into the most widely used of all architecture software AutoCAD. So if you are doing professional rendering Max used with the plugin renderer called VRay is an amazing and popular combination.
Check out the liks below to the resources availible in particular from Vizmasters and Evermotion.
All the best,
Mike
