Interior Design New York Times
Should I go to design school in Spokane instead of New York City?
I was accepted to the New York school of Interior Design in NYC, but they would only accept 10 credits.( I have about 3 yrs of accredited college)
On the other hand, Washington State University has accepted me as a junior level student. But its in Spokane Washington. Spokane is near the Idaho border, and is a small farming town. New York is well, NYC!
I lived in NYC for 5 months because I was attending the Fashion Institute of Technology as a transfer student. I decided not to continue there because they accepted me as a freshman as well. That’s why I tried the other school.
Will having more opportunities while in school be worth the extra time and MONEY spent? I will be in 90,000 or so after school in NYC.
Also I’m 23 years old. I’m really freaking out about the time issue of getting school done too.
If NYC offers the training and internship programs you can’t find anywhere else then it might be worth the investment. But if all you need is a basic foundation in your area of study and Spokane can offer that- then go with the not-so glam school that can offer you a solid education. I would only stay in NY if the program offered me something UNIQUE that I truly couldn’t find anywhere else (and that would land me a job to pay off that 90,000). Spokane internships may not be as glam but they may offer more freedom and less competition for limited spots- so you just might luck out on challenging internship in your industry.
