Interior Design Hotel
What rug will look nice with black and white tiled floors?
For my interior design class, I have to design a hotel lobby. My hotel lobby will be inspired by the Art Deco time period. Checkered floors were very popular in that time, so I plan to have black and white marble floors. Popular chairs in that time looked like this- http://images.oneofakindantiques.com/182_hand_carved_french_upholstered_chair_1_mid.jpg The walls will be painted an ivory color. What type of rug/what color of a rug would look nice for my hotel lobby?
Wow, thanks for the quick replies. I also want to know what you guys think should be the color for the counters?
I would say don’t even bother with a rug…stick to simple, straight lines, lots of long geometric shapes, red is a great complimentary color. If you do use a rug in the lobby, stick to something thats good for high-traffic areas with a low pile. Mirrors are good also. (not for the floor obviously! ha ha!)

Is New York or Los Angeles a better city to study Interior Design?
Hi
I live in the Seattle WA area and was looking to move out in 09. I have several years of college, and the plan was to move to southern California and work at the Disneyland Resort while attending school down there for interior design. (I love the Disney company because I interned at Walt Disney World in 2007)
BUT I was accepted to the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, which is a very prestigious and famous school for design. I also think that there would be many experiences and oppurtunites for me to grow in NYC, as it is the center for art and design in the U.S.
But L.A. has some culture too… and I do prefer warm weather and love the ocean. I just don’t know what to do. If my goal is to be a succesful designer, is New York City a better place for an education? School in NYC starts next month!
Thanks, ~Mike
Hi Mike! I would go to FIT. Once you complete the program there you would be able to move to the west coast and find a good job there. Some sacrifice and you would have great credentials to do what ever you wanted in your field. FIT is a great school… Good luck!
