Interior Design Washington Dc Does anbody have a career in retail store design or store planning?
I have a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons School of Design and have been working in Visual Merchandising for 5 years. I would like to find out more about store planning/retail design. Is it competitive? Can one move up fast and make 6 figures? What is a starting salary? Can I live on the west coast or must I live in New York City? Would I be able to enroll in a certificate program in interior design, and are there any good schools in Washington DC or San Francisco?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
tough time to enter this field, more stores are closing than opening…but good luck,,,,

Interior Designer Resume I am an Interior designer who has moved and need advice on how to restart my career, there are complications!?
I have moved to a new State and had worked for my ex boyfriend as an Interior Designer for the last 10 years. I have been trying to get work in this field and was honest on my resume about my previous employment. Can anyone give me any advice about how to jump start my career in a new place. With my ex giving me a bad reference, I have not had any luck with the local design studios. I’m very good at what I do and have resorted to doing clerical work until I can sort this out..Any ideas will be greatly apprceiated.
OK, this is tough. Unfortunately you are stuck with this reference. But you might want to take a different approach as you apply for jobs.
Do you have a portfolio of your work? Get one together and bring it with you as you interview. Are there any clients you have done work for that would be willing to give you a letter of recommendation or a reference?
Do you have a degree in interior design? If so that’s a good thing, but you might have to swallow your pride and take a lower level position until you prove yourself.
Be honest when you interview. Work up a statement you can use that explains your previous situation. For example:
I worked at XYZ firm for ten years. While employed there I was in a personal relationship with the owner. Our personal relationship ended on bad terms and if you contact him he will probably give you a poor professional reference.
If you have some clients or other employees willing to go to bat for you then you can continue saying something like:
I do, however, have with me a portfolio of my work and several letters of reference from clients of mine. Here’s a list of names and phone numbers of clients willing to speak with you on my behalf to vouch for my professional abilities.
Good luck to you. I hope everything works out.

Free Interior Design Of Bedrooms Does anybody know of an interior design site, like Polyvore in a sense?
Something where you can design the layout of a room, at least. I’m going to redo my bedroom and I’m hoping to be able to do a layout easily, on a computer, for free.
Thanks a lot!
I don’t know what Polyvore is – but this site gives you an easy way to create a layout plan with pen and paper (and it is very easy! I promise), and links to a great site where you can create a very professional interior design plan on the computer. (The computer layout plan site is not quite free, but it is very inexpensive, and you can get a free trial too)
