Interior Design For Beginners
Interior design, decorating?

Its been always my dream to be an interior designer or decorator. Currently I am in 3 schools( all 3 is one year course) for interior design and interior decorator. I am almost done with them and I just dont know how/where to find a job. Everybody needs experience, what i understand, but then how am i supposed to have experience if no one gives me the chance. Does someone has any idea where to start? Are ther companies who hire beginners and help them learn everything in real life?

The schools you are at don’t offer internships? That is pretty lame. All schools I know at least get you 6 weeks internships so you can get a feel for the business. Ask at your school.

Interior Designer Starting Out Basics?

I’m looking for christmas gifts for my son – he will graduate in May with a Bachelors in Interior Design – what are some of the things he will need starting out? ie, portfolio case, document tubes, tools of the trade. Thank you!

Most of the things listed so far are things your son probably already has since they would have been used in his classes. A portfolio case is a nice idea however, most portfolios today are done via some type of electronic media. A good digital camera will definitely come in handy if he doesn’t already have one. How about some works clothes for a potential new job? Or maybe an interview suit, or shirt and tie.

What are some good interior design advice for a beginner to this style …?

My style is not elegant Victorian eccentric … sure if that is a real category, but its a bit of Victorian Gothic, baroque, mixed with curious eccentric elements. (Terrariums, cages birds, things in the jar, etc), but not pretentious or modern gothic. Id like to decorate the living room and bedroom in this way. If you know of any book or photographs to help please list them too.
