I’m screwed… if I don’t get this. I’ll never be successful. so pls ANSWER!!!!?

Hi! My name is Tiffany and I’m an Art major at City College of NY. The courses are the general art courses which include painting, graphic design, illustration, drawing, sculpture, 2d and 3d design, furniture design, and etc- I have taken all of these. It would be nice to start taking interior design courses but my school doesn’t have them. I feel it would be too late to leave the school I’m at now because I graduate in less than a year and because it would set me back a year or two. I plan to get my masters degree in interior design anyway. Is it possible to have a bachelors degree in Art and a masters degree in interior design? And I’m wondering if it is still possible to become a successful interior designer without a bachelors in interior design.

My answer to both of your question is yes, you can get a masters degree in interior design and you can be successful as an interior designer. In fact, I think that you have a competitive advantage over other people who are strictly interior design. You will have an eye for the artistic side where your competitors will not.

The only potential glitch that I can see is you acceptance into graduate school. The main question is if your graduate school of choice will accept you, which frankly, I can’t really see a problem. It is not an extreme academic shift as say, you wanted to go to medical school after your art degree.

Why are some of you so condescending?

I asked a simple (although be it loaded) question yesterday about the Federal Reserve and the stock market crash. I realize that our Republican brothers & sisters find such conversation to be abhorant and may irritate them. (They’ll get over it).
But in any event, as brilliant as I am (cough cough) I never knew that the Federal Reserve was a privately owned corporation just used by our governement to control our economy. You see, we all learn something every day; especially in these halls.
But some of the replies were so offending and pompous, they were down right rude !
I am a college graduate and have been told that I am outstanding in the feild of interior design, and I will be the first to admit I am not the brightest bulb on the Christman tree, but lets all try to be at least courteous to one another (except when we’re joking of course) O K ?
Bullying and demeaning a person for their lack of knowlege in a certain field should be saved for the elementary school yard.

The Republican learning center FOX, LIMBAUGH, HANNITY just listen to the hate toward anyone with differing views . You will see why so much animosity is directed at anyone with an open minded viewpoint.. Sheep will follow each other off the cliff!

What is the difference between “architecture” as a field/profession and “interior design”?

Is it that the architect builds what the interior designer designs? Or that the designer is more concentrated on the look & feel of a space and the architect with the structure? Also, which field is more lucrative or has higher earnings potential?

Architecture designs the shape of the building. They build the inside wall spaces. Yes in short they are most concerned with the structure. You have to have a good grasp on math and know all the building codes in an area and for the type and size of structure. There is more technical knowledge.

Interior design deals with in short the decoration of a space. They deal with wall color and decorations, carpeting, furniture, curtains, etc. They in short decorate the room. If you want a good feel of what an interior designer does catch Trading Spaces or While You Were Out on TLC. An interior designer deals more with the aesthetic part of the room. Making it look and feel a certain way (i.e. for an office you’d want things to flow nicely and feel comforting).

With both careers how good you are determines how well you do. If you are one of the bests in business you can charge more and have a very lucrative career out of both of them. This is a business where you need to build an excellent reputation and repartee in order to be lucrative. Most start off with a firm and build up their resume of buildings or rooms that they have done before breaking off on their own. But in short as I have stated you need to build up a really good reputation and resume before either of these fields would be lucrative.
